Drumset Educational Camp

August 12-16, 2008  
   
DESCRIPTION:  

Since its inception in 2001 the Drumset Educational Camp has provided excellent instruction to high school, college, and adult level students aspiring to enhance their abilities on the drumset. This camp provides an intensive yet fun atmosphere in a masterclass setting, allowing participants to go at their own pace.

The camp is held for 5 days each summer in Calgary, Alberta with a focus on Jazz, Latin, and Funk genres. Instructors have included Juno nominated Sandro Dominelli, Andy Ericson (funk), Malcolm Lim (Samba), and Jeremy Coates (groove concepts).

  • swing ride cymbal approaches
  • big band chart reading
  • jazz combo drumming
  • funk drumming
  • stick and pedal techniques
  • Cuban & Brazilian rhythms on the drumset
  • improvisation
  • Jazz drumset history lectures
  • transcription analysis
FINAL DAY PERFORMANCE:  
On the last day each participant performs a jazz standard with a professional rhythm section that will be videotaped.
 
Location: Mount Royal College
Deadline for Application: July 7, 2008
Workshop Hours: Tuesday to Friday 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
Final Day Performance: Sat., August 16 9:00 am - 2:00 pm
Fee: $250.00
   
Instructors for 2008 will include: Paul Romaine (USA), Raul Gomez Tabera (Cuba), Mario Allende (Chile), Malcolm Lim (Brazilian Rhythms), Rubim de Toledo (groove concepts), and Tyler Hornby (Canada)
 
*Acceptance is based on a first come first served basis. No audition is required, however applicants must be 15+ and should have some drumset experience*
